One word: Work!! I knew that labs were way more work than lecture courses, and I sorta guessed that this would be the cause with a Learning Center class, but wow!! Staying motivated, picking Speech topics...definately not what I thought would be the most demanding part of this course. Blogging. I never really thought about having my own blog before this class, but hey...it works. There were some entries that took forever to write, and finding some stuff to tie into the class was difficult. I think blogging was one of the things that I loved/hated the most. It was kinda cool actually having a blog, but content wise...I always went back and forth about should I post this/should I not, ya know? I think another part about the blogging that made it difficult at the beginning was finding a rhythm, or style, of blogging. Once I got into the style of blogging, it wasn't that bad. My advice to others that want to take this class: Set aside three days a week, two hours a day to do this course. Yeah, that might be too much time, but if you ever get stuck on picking a topic or blogging, it gives you some extra padding time.

Cue Take A Bow - Madonna...

Bush plans to tackle petrol price

BBC: " US President George W Bush has unveiled plans, including an inquiry into price fixing, to lower the cost of oil and cut climbing petrol prices."

Hm.......now that petrol is expensive Bush feels he must abandon his oil friends for consumers and the environment? Interesting.....

The article also goes on to say that America should get off its oil habit. Given that oil has hovered around $70 a barrel, (yes $70, but its not anywhere near the inflation adjusted highs of 1980, I'm told) for quite some time, this is an overdue statement. Simple steps, like not taking the weekly drive, taking public transit (if applicable) and higher fuel economy standards can all help insulate the economy from shocks in oil prices. A few years ago, Republicans vetoed mandating higher fuel economy standards, and auto companies along with the government saying technology wasn't practical or too expensive, or too much of a drain on the economy. Apparently now, it seems that higher fuel economy standards and increased renewable fuels (ie ethanol) are what God Himself came down and told them there Republicans to do.

I hope that for the sake of the environment, and my grandchildren, that we raise fuel economy standards. Ford already has a hybrid version of its popular Escape brand, getting 30ish mpg in driving. Lets hope this time political rhetoric turns into action.

OPS and Katrina

Wow! Another weekend passes. I thought the most noteworthy even of the whole weekend was the OPS school district story in the World-Hearld. Apparently, the Nebraska Legislature has voted to seperate OPS into three separate districts: one mostly black, one mostly hispanic, and the other mostly white. The weird thing is, its 2006. It's not the 1950s anymore. Why are we going back to segregation? This just sounds like racial division...wasn't the whole concept of "seperate but equal" already gone out the window? What is expected to come out of this whole resegregation thing?!? If people outside Nebraska didn't think we were backward before, they certainly will now.

In other news, apparently crude oil went up. Like since the highest its been since Katrina. I don't know about anybody else, but here gas ranges from $2.71 to $2.79 a gallon. Its expensive, but I keep telling people that in Europe, sometimes the tax on gasoline alone is like $2. Personally, I think that if we had more conservation measures (ie less SUVs, higher gasoline tax and much higher fuel economy standards) $3 a gallon gas (and we all know that eventually, it'll get up there again) would be less painful. I am so glad I bought my Honda car that gets 27mpg...much better than the previous car. Regardless of gas milage tho', gasoline is fairly high. My mom says it kinda reminds her of the 1970s, when gas first hit $1 and change. I remember when our pastor thought $1.49 was outrageous for gas.

more quizzes

Your Famous Last Words Will Be:

"I dunno, press the button and find out."

What Will Your Famous Last Words Be?

You Are An Invisible Ex

You're so over your ex, you hardly even remember you have an ex
You prefer leave all of the baggage behind you - far, far behind
As they say, indifference is the opposite of love!

What Type of Ex Are You?

Your 2005 Song Is

Hung Up by Madonna

"Every little thing that you say or do
I'm hung up
I'm hung up on you"

You'll be rockin' in the New Year in your croch-o-tard!

What Hit Song of 2005 Are You?

You Should Learn Spanish

For you, learning a language is about career advancement and communication.
Knowing Spanish will bring you tons of possiblities for jobs and travel. He said this was adding some excitement to their relationship, but I dunno. I think its just away to break-up without the messy break-up.

being bored

Take the quiz:
What clothing store are you?

Prada
Looking the best is the most important thing...Who cares about the money...its your dads anyway...

Quizzes by myYearbook.com -- the World's Biggest Yearbook!

You Are 7 Up

Understated and subtle, people warm up to you slowly.
But once they're hooked, they can't imagine going back to anyone else!

Your best soda match: Diet Coke

Stay away from: Mountain Dew

Which is weird - I looove Diet Coke and I never really cared for Mt. Talk about memories. It was too late on a Saturday night (or too early Sunday morning, depending on your viewpoint) it was absolutely freezing cold...to an extent, most of the world was kept out (prolly the 1AM thing...and the whole ghetto thing too)...Some were "weak" from being ocld/tired...others were happily in a drug induced state of ecstacy......I still picture that night whenever I hear Glass Danse.

Feel the vapour pressure drop as the dark
Steam pours out the entrance.
Real cold world is swirling in
To a club that keeps the real life world out
Where every sense seems deathly
Weak from the frozen time you spent in transit
The glass dance world flickers on
And the low end thaws your anxious body

Maybe I feel detatched, I may just look too shy,
It's a disinterest not that I'm a timid guy.
I call them bodies but, they are attentive too,
I feel the social glare I feel the attitude.

Watch as mirrors clear themselves with the
Breath of frigid air that eased in.
Made up babies all rotate as a siren spins a beam of amber
Time sliced beat by beat in a row, in a club
In a line, in the city.
The glass dance world
Flickers on because the cycle happens enough:

A baby falls out warm, it's screaming for it's life,
An infant tries to dance as it grows up then dies.
That's simplified but uh. . .when your complexion dries,
You wake up cold and think, you wish it'd been this way.
